New Year’s Resolution?
By Pastor Bill
Some of us aren’t all too enamored with New Year’s resolutions, but there’s one that’s always worthy of promotion. Is it time for you to begin reading right through the Bible again? There is any number of excellent Bible reading plans out there. It’s surprising how little time it takes each day to read through the entire Bible in a year. Approximately 3 chapters a day will get you through the whole Old and New Testaments. If you are interested in more information to get you started then try on these websites for size: ESV Bible Reading Plans or The Bible Gateway Bible Reading Plans.
Whether you want to read straight through from beginning to end, or in the chronological order in which the 66 individual books were written, or you would like to read from different parts of the Bible each day, there is a plan for you. The most important thing is that you read the Bible, that you go to the source and drink fresh clean water. In our day when biblical illiteracy abounds we can’t encourage each other enough to read sacred Scripture for ourselves and daily. There is so much said about the Bible and so much written on the Bible but so little reading of the Bible! If all pastors and people of the book would read the Bible through every year there is no way to calculate the good that would ensue for everyone involved.
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” Hebrews 4:12-13
