“Worship takes place when God reveals Himself to us through His Word, the work of Christ and the Power of the Holy Spirit to initiate positive response involving body, emotions, intellect and will.” – Adapted from Don Hustad
Worship in the truest sense should apply to all of the Christian life, from Monday through Sunday. It is a direct expression of our ultimate purpose for living. However, in the context of corporate gatherings it applies to the music, words and actions we direct to God with hearts of praise through singing, Scripture reading, prayer, preaching, exhorting, baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
We believe in the planning and practice of reverent and relevant worship for a twofold purpose:
1. Magnifying and exulting in the person and cross-work of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ; and
2. Spiritual renewal that edifies the people of God and conserves our faith.
As a gospel shaped church, we seek to encourage one another to engage the Audience of One, our great God, with authentic encounters of awe, confession, adoration and love for Jesus who died for our sins and rose for our justification.
Reverence and relevance apply to everything we do in the planning, administration, leading and participation of our corporate worship services. We seek to appreciate one another before God knowing that our church worship services may include a variety of leaders, music styles, and practices, all of which accommodate our solidarity and acceptance of one another. For example, one person may say Amen in his heart and another might declare it openly; one person may raise his/her hands and another may not. Whether one instrument or a band, whether old hymn or new chorus, whether worship team or single worship leader, whether clapping or not we are fully free in Christ to love Him, and one another, through our worship. To God be the glory.
Getting Back to the Heart of Worship
“All of history is moving toward one great goal, the white-hot worship of God and His Son among all the peoples of the earth. Missions exists because worship doesn’t.
Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man. When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on ther faces before the throne of God, mission will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever.”
-John Piper
